He is the middle child of three children. Bill was a proficient student and received a scholarship to attend Harvard University in 1973. However, he dropped out of college before completing his degree to pursue his passion for computer programming.

Bill’s interest in computers began in his teenage years when he was allowed to have computer time at his high school. Later, he attended Lakeside, an elite private school with a computer club. Bill Gates and Paul Allen co-founded Microsoft Corporation in 1975. Microsoft’s first product was BASIC, a programming language. They later developed many other software products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the famous Windows operating system. Windows 95 was a turning point in Microsoft’s success as a software company. Gates’ leadership made Microsoft one of the most successful companies in the world. The rise of Microsoft and its success led to Bill Gates’ becoming a millionaire and eventually a billionaire.

Bill Gates’ philanthropic efforts are perhaps as impressive as his business accomplishments. In 2000, he and his wife, Melinda, founded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support global health and education initiatives. He has also received numerous honorary doctorates from various institutions and universities, including Cambridge, Oxford, and Harvard. In 2016, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Obama. More recently, he was awarded the prestigious Hilal-e-Pakistan for Social Work in Pakistan in 2022.
